GINGER SPIN-OFFS

Cosmopolitan was quite liberal in selling their Ginger doll and the Ginger molds to other companies.

In fact, most of the big-eyed Ginger dolls were probably not originally sold under the Ginger label.

Sometimes Cosmopolitan sold the doll outright. Other times they let other companies use the mold.

Most of these companies used cheaper plastic and paints to produce promotional dolls for businesses.

Others, like The Midwestern Doll Company, Terri Lee, and Duchess Dolls, used good-quality Gingers.

The Terri-Lee Company - known for the larger Terri Lee dolls - used a high-quality Ginger for their 8-inch Brownie and Girl Scout dolls.

Duchess Dolls - known mainly for their extensive line of costume dolls - sold a painted-lash early Ginger of fine quality, called "Randi".

Midwestern, as well as Grant Plastics and the Admiration Doll Company, did a rather bizarre thing with their dolls: they painted white "shoes" over the clearly visible toes!
