1. Pre-Ginny VOGUE DOLLS

GINNY was created by Mrs. Jennie Adler Graves, owner and founder of the Vogue Doll Corporation. She had founded the Vogue Doll Shoppe in 1922, at the age of 32.

In the beginning, she bought German bisque dolls manufactured by Armand Marseille (famous maker of porcelain bisque dolls now highly prized by collectors) - and sewed beautiful outfits for them.
(photo: ebay listing) She called the doll "Just Me."  Just Me came in two sizes, 8 inches and 10 inches tall. Business boomed during the Roaring Twenties.

These books explore the bisque dolls in depth

Toward the end of the Depression, Mrs. Graves' husband died, leaving her to support her family. Her response was to expand her business, formally incorporating it,  changing the name to Vogue Dolls, and becoming politically active. She campaigned for fair trade, labor and taxation practices.

During the late 1930's, Vogue Dolls emerged as a leader in the doll industry. At this time her daughter, Virginia Graves Carlson, also joined the company.
