THESE ARE DOLLS WITH ALL UNEEDA CHARACTERISTICS EXCEPT THE HEAD:
photo from my collection These two dolls meet all the tests for Uneeda but one: they have hard plastic heads. Elite VICKI-LEE is one doll that looks like this. Another is an A&H Gigi. Other small companies, including Unique and others, also marketed these dolls. Since these are no longer connected to their original box, and they are unmarked, one can't say for sure who they are.
UNEEDA is best known for their larger dolls. Uneeda began making unusual, collectible dolls back in 1920 and has continued into modern times. Their 1950's sensation was Dollikins, a fully jointed (elbows, wrists, knees and ankles, as well as shoulders and hips) 19-inch fashion doll with pierced ears and fingernail polish. Others include Needa Toddles, a 22 inch doll with hard plastic head and vinyl body - made in 1951, it has to be one of the earliest vinyls!
There were variations on the fully-jointed Dollikins idea, including 18-inch "Magic Fairy Princess," as well as many other types of dolls.
